Photos! Me, dolls, and rambling?

I haven't posted any selfies lately. :B So here ya go!

That is quite an improvement from nearly a year ago, in regards to beard growth:

And may I just say that I am super annoyed at the subtle changes to photobucket? I had my settings just so, that I could hover over a pic, click over a link, and it auto-copied to the clipboard. Now I have to click the pic, click the link, open a new tab, paste to make sure it clicked, and then paste it wherever I want to put it. HATE. I hate change.

It used to say "link copied" when it auto-copied it, so I knew I had it ready to paste. It doesn't click, it doesn't give me any indication now, that it has successfully copied. BOOOO.

Also I now have to actually LOG OUT to switch between accounts, instead of just going to that album's page and entering my password, which used to switch accounts for me.

And in much happier news, one of the two (MSD) dolls I purchased with my tax return is in transit, and the other is due to be shipped this week. The first is coming from Poland and entered US Customs this evening, so if all goes well she (yes a *girl* doll, on purpose even!) should arrive Wednesday or Thursday.

I don't have anything ready for her, but she'll borrow from Ichigo. He's got some more feminine clothing. She may be a tomboy with my luck though. e_e;; I'm really not sure who my girl will be yet but I'm excited to find out. :]

I also have a boy coming, who will be Finn from Adventure Time. I have a pattern for his hat, and will make his shorts and shirt soon. I've ordered appropriate black ankle-length boots, and have some white socks I made for Ichigo that should work. I'll need to sort a backpack, and see if I can find a toy sword to modify into the one Finn uses, but I'm satisfied so far with what I've thought up. I love a project doll.

In addition to these two cuties, I was also able to get Robbie on his body FINALLY as ya'll know, and very soon I will have my Souldoll Lune on a proper Souldoll body as well. Not sure what I'm gonna do with the Souldoll Asiter head yet, but the price was right, it's through a friend, it's a good buy.

I took some pictures yesterday, of Doran, since I didn't seem to have any of him since I re-faceupped him, and then Robbie with Christopher Owen. :]

Happy Valentines Day! Robbie got his body!

So I don't know that I mentioned it, but shortly after I put up my WTB thread, I had a few different people PM me about bodies for sale.

I ended up buying the first, because it was a good price from the same year in GREAT condition, and the seller had impeccable feedback. After several PMs back and forth I can see why.

Robbie's body arrived today. My camera was DEAD (died a couple presents in on Ringo's birthday, earlier this week) so I took a quicky pic with my cellphone. Chillin' with his bestie Christian, who belongs to Osaka.

Osaka re-face-upped Robbie for me. I need to order his glasses from Aileen doll, and I need to find him some greener eyes, but I love how he turned out. He's got freckles, and beautiful thick dark eyebrows, as well as a nice little goatee.

I'm so happy to finally have him in one piece. I need to sew ALL the things for him. He's got a pair of jeans, a polo shirt, a hoodie, and that hat, which I got from Mom (thanks Mom!). He also has a pair of steampunk-esque boots, and I think when I order from AileenDoll I will also buy him one of their leather bags, and maybe the steampunk revolver.

I have a little more shopping I want to do, and am in the process of negotiating sales for two minis on Den of Angels, both Volks. I passed on the Elf Chiwoo. I still want a Chiwoo, but I want a normalskin non-elf, when that happens. I think he'll be brother to my future Soony, when that sculpt is finally available again (either secondhand or through Fairyland).

I enjoy the planning stages of doll shopping but I get aggravated when plans don't work out; due to lack of finances, or dolls not wanting to be who they are supposed to be once they arrive.

In regards to Valentines Day, mine was pretty nice. :] I worked a short day and met up with Osaka, Ringo, and C (Osaka's Mom) for lunch.

Then we came home, found the pink slip on the door, and I flailed. Osaka actually saw the mailman when she took out the recycling and CHASED HIM to get my package. A truer best friend I've never known. He was really sweet about it actually, and recognized her, so he waited. I love our postman.

Osaka came back in, breathless, carrying that huge square box, and I about fell over. HUGE hug, all the thanks. Then I opened him up.

There was a tear in the corner of the box that I could see pillows through. It looked like it had snagged on sorting machinery or something; the tear was about six inches long and about two inches wide at the top.

I dug through pounds of bubblewrap, and pulled out, in PERFECT condition, a tightly bound mummy of a body. No damage what-so-ever.

I did have to restring him immediately, but not because of anything to do with the condition of the string. The knot was up above the neck, which makes it very hard to position with a head as small as School C. So I took him apart, scratched my head a bit cause this is my first doll with an unjointed torso, and pieced him back together with the knot hidden in the torso just under the arm elastic.

Then I fought with the eyes, fought with the wig, and fought with the clothes. LOL. The eyes wanted to be wall-eyed, then cross-eyed.

The wig didn't want to be pulled into place over the protective silicon cap to prevent staining. This wig HELLA stained his previous faceup (WATCH OUT FOR DARK LEEKE WIGS FOR NOW), and I was not gonna have that happen again.

Even his jeans caught on his thighs. Apparently the SD10 swarrico girl body has a smaller butt and thighs, cause that's the body I used to size and sew for him before his came along.

All said and done though, it was a really great day. THEN I GOT TO TALK TO STEVE! <3 br="">
I probably would have called this a crap day (whether it were Valentines or not) given how some things went, if I had not gotten to speak to Steve.

Lunch was good, Romano's Macaroni Grill, for belated birthday lunch for Ringo, but the bus ride up their was WEIRD. The bus was more crowded than any of us have EVER seen it. I ride the bus like 6 days a week, so that's saying something. In addition, all of the passengers were super polite and helpful minded. HRT is king of jerk passengers, jerk drivers, and buses spontaneously catching fire, so it was kind of remarkable.

Robbie turned out great, but only because Osaka went above and beyond and TRACKED DOWN THE MAIL TRUCK IN OUR APARTMENT COMPLEX WHAT.

I texted Steve when Osaka and I were at the store, and he jumped on skype when we got back in. It was really great to chat, and I'm glad we could, cause it had been nearly a week since our last visit. :[

I think that's all the interesting things then. I hope ya'll've had a nice Valentines Day. :]

Personal responsibility.

I am in an interesting place this evening. I had a minor upset coming home from work, with emotional baggage that I thought might happen, exploding all over me, and proceeded to shut down.

My coping mechanism when I shut down is to look online, at webcomics, social media, and dolls. I've looked at LOTS of dolls lately, knowing that my tax return was coming. It's slated to deposit some time this week, but could arrive as late as Saturday next week, according to Turbotax and the IRS.

After looking at ALL the dolls, I checked my phone and realized I'd missed a text from Faythe, so I called her and we talked for about two hours. That's long for her, but it was a well needed conversation on both sides.

We discussed social responsibility, growing up, dolls, relationships, and things that are probably less common or considered okay to discuss with family members. We've always been able to discuss those things though, and based upon some of our mutual past, there is stuff in common across the board.

We hate waste, and therefore indulgent/ignorant selfishness. There is a mutual friend who is capable of being a sweet, loving, caring person. They have been going through some rough stuff, (at least half of which is of their own making) for quite a while, and making excuses at least as long. We're both pretty disappointed in that friend, and hoping for better things for them, and the people that they directly affect.

That person is one of the most selfish people I've ever known, despite their sweet nature, and has several selfish mannerisms in common with other people I've known, some of whom I still interact with on a semi-regular basis. I've recognized some of the mannerisms in my ex, some in Pherret, some in Moose (though less so recently), and more.

The tying theme is that none of them feel that they have done anything wrong, or that they should take any responsibility for what their actions have caused. It's an incredibly frustrating mess to deal with, and moreso when the person is a romantic partner.

How do you work through issues with someone who doesn't feel that they have (ever) done anything wrong in the context of your relationship? Oh they may admit to leaving their dirty laundry on the floor, or clipping their toenails on the sofa, or something annoying but minor in that vein, but they will refuse to take responsibility for cheating on you, or hitting you, or screaming at you. That is YOUR fault, somehow. And half the time, when they admit that this thing has happened, they try to spin it, that YOU did abusive THING to them, rather than the other way around.

Is it possible to have a reasonable discussion with someone who thinks this way? Can they grow out of it? I did, but that may not mean that Person A, or Person B, can. Maybe someone else who used to act this way has grown up too, and so you hold out hope. Maybe you hold out hope forever. Or maybe, just maybe, you realize that you have done everything you can do to try and communicate with this person, and that it's just not possible until or unless they grow up.

Is that fair? Is it fair to you? Is it fair to them? Is it the right thing to do? Can you trust your instincts? What do your instincts even say? How long have you been asking this? How long have you been hoping, waiting, praying?

I try to keep my eyes open. I don't want to end up in another relationship like this, even a platonic one. I stress honesty. I admit my faults. I take responsibility. I will never lie to you. I may be mistaken, and I may be prone to exaggeration, but if I catch myself, I will tell you. If you catch it, and point it out to me, I will admit it, and I will apologize. Because that is the right thing to do.

I will always try to do the right thing, whether or not there is a "right" thing that is obvious. I do what I must for myself, but if at all possible, I do what I can to cause the least possible harm to others, while taking care of my own needs.

I like to think that I am a good person, but are you really that good a person, if you have to keep telling yourself that? I'm selfish. I want what I want, and I want it now. I want you to do what I ask you to, and I don't want it to be a big deal. But, I recognize that I don't GET that, just because I want it to be that way.

You don't have to talk to me, just because I greet you. You don't have to smile at me, if you don't want to. You don't have to do anything that you don't want to do, as long as your choices do not negatively impact me or the people that I care about.

My thoughts are disjointed, and I feel that I am rambling, so I will stop. But, I feel that it is important to share my thoughts, when I am able to actually articulate them. Whether they make any sense is a completely separate matter.

These dolls are like an addiction.

So, I've been surfing Den of Angels marketplace in all the sizes since I was in Texas. I was doing it a lot there while I waited to get together with Logan and Mel, or waiting for Mom to come home from work.

I recently finished a layaway, and I've got that itch to look for the next doll. It's not that I want to ignore Rowan, or Bear, or Orion, my most recent dolls, or any of the dolls before that. I just get that itch if I don't have one picked, being paid on, or waiting to ship. I've had that itch since early 2006, when I'd had Ro for about six months, and wanted a companion for him.

I've looked at lots of different sizes and styles, limiteds, standards, discontinued sculpts, great deals, total scalper sales threads, questionable feeler threads, and everything in between.

I'm currently eye-ing a large (SD) limited/discontinued sculpt, that is a different incarnation than I expected to have a chance at. One of the first dolls I looked at, when I realized I'd missed my chance for Shirou Tachibana (the ABJD that made me want one). I won't say which until I've secured him. I ended up going for Dream of Doll Tender Yen at the time because we couldn't afford the extra $200 for a larger doll, when I got him. That was the major decision influence.

I'm also looking at an unusual combination of a male limited Volks MSD head, on a female body, and another rare Volks MSD sculpt on a boy body. I passed on several standards at great prices because it just seems more realistic to try at these harder to get dolls when they are available now, and I could actually purchase one or more of them.

My wishlist on Den of Angels is still miles long, and more dolls are added all the time, amusingly. If I were to acquire all the dolls I have even a passing interest in, I would have HUNDREDS of dolls. That's one of the other reasons I go for the dolls that are incredible finds, either in price or rarity or both. I'm not adverse to saving money and time by purchasing second-hand standards, but I'd rather get harder to find dolls, and purchase my standards brand new from the companies.

Seven of my dolls have been second-hand, so it's not like I'm a snob about owning second-hand dolls, but I love that amazingly pure, never touched by anyone but the creator and shipper's hands feel of a new doll.
I especially love that about artist-made dolls, like my Machina. I know that he was handled, and carefully packed, by Batchix, lovingly sculpted, and he means the world to me. He was sweet and beautiful straight out of the shipping box. I'd love to have more of her beautiful dolls. :]

I'm wired. I'm excited about looking at dolls to theoretically buy, I'm excited about sewing and knitting for them, photographing them with the ones I already have, shopping for the right shoes, eyes, wigs, and clothes for them. I love these dolls.

I think I'm probably babbling at this point, so I'll stop. I hope you're all doing well. :]

Bodies for everyone!

For what it's worth I did find an SD10 boy body. A sweet young lady saw my WTB thread shortly after listing a body that meets my requirements and PMed me about it. She's holding it for me till payday, when I will be able to send full payment.

I did my taxes first thing today, and will be getting a nice tax return. I've already gotten confirmation that it's been accepted by the IRS, and I should have the return deposited into my account between the 13th and the 23rd.

I'm glad that I won't have to buy a whole new doll just for the body for Robbie. I was a bit concerned that I was going to have to do it that way, since everyone wanted like $500 for bodies as old as 2005. e_e;;

Next I need to find a suitable body for my Souldoll Lune head. I like the Souldoll Double boy body (the first one) but I am unwilling to pay $500 for just a body, and while that body is nice, I REALLY want the original Souldoll body for my head. I'm picky like that.

I'm also wanting to get Ro onto a different body. Preferably back on a Dream of Doll (Child) body, either the first or second type. I don't like the new ones, and the resin wouldn't match. Ro is from that batch in 2005 that was "Pinky White" by other company standards. He will need a white body. I've considered a Minifee body, but I'm not sold on it.

I'd like to buy Marek (Robbie's Partner) too, but I'm waffling on what sculpt he should be. I'd like a Volks doll, so that I could take the whole family to New York Dolpa if that ever comes back. Marek is supposed to be taller, more muscular than Robbie, with light hair and brown eyes. SD13 would be tall enough and slightly bulkier, but not as muscular as I picture Marek. Strong jaw, adult male looking. I had been considering Iplehouse Storm, but I worry that it will look strange next to an SD10 School C. I know how the EID boys look next to Luts boys (similar scale) and I'm trying to avoid quite that extreme a difference.

LOL. I went to DOA to look for comparisons of EID/SID/YID next to SD10, and got distracted by the jointed hands comparison thread. If I get the Angel Studio body for my Souldoll head, I will get the jointed hands too. :]

Oh man.. I stumbled across a male couples thread and it was nothing but skirt boys and just.. leather, chains. What. No. That's what I get for expecting anything different on Den of Angels with posts from 2005-2008. UGH.

TLDR, bodies for everyone!

About Me

My photo
I'm Rory or Rorek in most places. I design, sew, and craft, primarily for my Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls. I also dabble in interior design, but I'm a little out of practice.

I post about the things I enjoy, which are sewing, photographing my dolls, designing new outfits, knitting, which I started in September of 2008, thanks to my Mom, and occasionally drawing, or painting.

I also post about Life Events and how they affect me and those that I love.

Currently I am living in DFW, Texas in the USA and working towards a degree in Theology.
