Haircut!

I finally cut my hair today. I think my recent emotional issues were stemming from my hair being at an awkward length for me. It sounds ridiculous to some, but long hair freaks me out, on myself, and the awkward between lengths, make me feel very badly about myself, and shatter what self confidence I have. I was considering growing it out a little more, but I just couldn't.

Anyway I took before and after shots. The afters are blurry, sorry.
Photobucket
As you can see it's still short, but it was getting shaggy and unkempt-looking. And, it's always a little startling to see how short it looks fresh after the cut. The length I like best, is about a week after I cut it.

And, then I took a shot with my hair fluffed. I tried to get one at the same angle but my auto-focus wouldn't cooperate.

It's currently 1 inch on the top, 3/8 around the temples, and 1/4 from the ears down. Normally I just do the inch on top and the 3/8 from there, but I wanted it to look nicer around the neck, since I tend to get weird tufts of hair missed down there, so I took it down a notch and used a second mirror to check my progress throughout.

Just a few photos.

I took some photos of Ichigo and Chris today. I've been wanting to do something creative with them for over a week but I'm generally not very good at taking photos of more than one doll at a time. I think I did alright today though.

Bottled water contains sodium?

How much truth do you think there is, to the rumor/myth/urban legend that says water bottling companies salt their water? You know, to make you thirstier. I ask because today I rode my bike down to Walmart to buy a bubble mailer, then down to the post office to mail off Eveshka's stuff. I wasn't really thirsty when I got to Walmart but it's a warm day (73°F [22.8C for my friends in the UK and Australia] 45% humidity) with a warm breeze, so I decided to play it safe and buy a bottle of water while I was there. I drank a little bit and was IMMEDIATELY thirsty like I hadn't had liquids all day and it was over 100°F (37.8C). My throat felt dry, and there was a chemical taste and strange lubrication in my mouth. I've felt that before, when I was really dehydrated over the summer at Church camp when I was younger. Usually when I hadn't had any water in several hours in Texas summer heat.

So am I paranoid? Is it psychological? Or do you think there is something to the myth? I know when I was about 15 (1998ish) there were commercials that boasted they had no additives like sodium, which OTHER companies had. Of course these commercials never listed which competitors added sodium, but I'd heard the rumor before that Aquafina commercial. The brand of water I drank today was Deja Blue. The nutritional information label says there is 0% sodium, but I know if it's under a certain percent per volume they don't have to list it, and the serving size is like 1/3 of a 20oz bottle.

And, on top of that, when I got home I drank our filtered water from the fridge, and that nasty chemical taste and lubrication is gone, and I no longer feel like I've been wandering the desert without a canteen. So, theories? Anyone know anything for sure?

Also, Eveshka, I mailed your stuff first class with insurance, but without delivery confirmation, since it wasn't an option on the automated system.

Also this. My friend Alison posted it on her journal and my first thought was MOM NEEDS TO SEE THIS!

Show us your dolls! ~Meme~

I took this from Roxy and a few others on my friendslist.

I feel like I am so out of touch with everyone and the dolls they own... I know of some dolls that folks have, but not all of them! So show me all your dolls! And introduce them! What's their name? Their mold? You can introduce them individually or throw them all into one image (like I have). And you can either comment here or post on your livejournal.

I decided to go with a single collage so as not to make a HUGE post that would take a bunch of bandwidth. Initially I had the sculpt and company names too, but it detracted from the photos so I'll post that underneath.

Ro is a Dream of Doll (DoC) Tender Yen. Elli is a CustomHouse Little Junior Mars for Valentine, the 2006 version. They released another one the next year. Ichigo is a Volks Ko-Tenshi Tsubaki. Chris is a Volks Yo-SD Tinatsu. Seanan is a Volks Yo-SD Sweet Dream Piccolo. Declan is a CustomHouse Little Junior Uranus, which is the Uriel head, on a Little Junior body. Elliott is a Souldoll Lune. Onigiri is a Volks School C head. And, Doran is my Soom Glati, whom I have on layaway at the moment.

I went ahead and took photos of all the dolls that didn't have recent shots. So, Ro, Elli, Seanan, Elliott, and Onigiri. :B

Doll meetup and the dinosaur beanie.

So Saturday was fun. One person showed up to the doll meetup I planned. Well, one person not related to me. It was Mom, me, Nekokoi, and this girl Nekokoi knows from DOA.

Apparently the day I chose at random happened to fall on the same day as something called All-Con, which is a general convention for all kinds of stuff. Also, since I planned for a day at the park, in Texas, the weather didn't cooperate. Instead of a mild day with sun, it was cold and wet. Not actually raining, but wet and muddy cause it HAD been raining for three or four days.

So, once we realized it was just us, we decided to take our meetup to the Cheesecake Factory at the Parks Mall, since Mom ran into a meetup there last summer, and it seemed as good a place as any. We enjoyed a delicious meal, our waiter was very pleasant, and we gots lots of nice questions about the dolls. Apparently some of the stuff speculated that we were spies from Chili's and the dolls had cameras in their eyes. Strange theories indeed.

Mom ducked out after lunch (thanks for coming!), because she had other things to do for the day, and the rest of us wandered the mall a bit, ducking into stores at our leisure and just plain having fun. Mom and others seem to think the mall is a dank place of evil, where if you linger for more than a few minutes, you will spontaneously combust, or become like the tweens that litter it. I, and Nekokoi, think it's a conveniantly placed collection of stores that are pleasant to browse and shop at. :B

While we were there, I found this beanie at Hot Topic, and got it. It's the exact design of the dinosaur suspenders I wanted but never found after that one time. I didn't want to pass it up again, and I do need a beanie for when it gets chilly, since I've not knit one yet. Also it was marked down, and I happened to have just enough to get it. Voila.

We had fun, and I'm hoping to plan another meetup within city limits and actually get some people I don't know to show up this time. XD Maybe I can coordinate something for next month.

Feeling Human again(again?).

Wow. It took forever to kick that sickness. What started off as bizarre and sudden nausea, morphed into a nasty chest and sinus something that settled very firmly and took several full days to kick. I'm still coughing a bit, but now it's more a dry leftover cough, a reflex, than the lung-shaking/aching cough I've had for the last four days.

And now that I'm feeling pretty well recovered, I can't help but notice my hair is annoyingly long. I meant to cut it a week and a half ago before the plague set in. It's probably not really all that long to others, but my sideburns are going wild because of the way my glasses sit, and I keep getting tickled in the ears as a result which drives me absolutely insane. It doesn't look that long in photos because of the way it lies on me, but when I try to fluff it up, it ducktails in the front under its own weight.

You can sort of see what I mean here, but I think it might actually be about three and a half inches on top right now, which would put it at about two inches on the sides now*. I will likely buzz it back into shape in the next several days. And, the reason I'm not pale as a ghost, despite not being outdoors for any significant amount of time in weeks, is that I got a sunburn on Saturday, at the niece's soccer game. The game wasn't particularly long or anything but it was one of those alternatively sunny and overcast days, where a sunburn tends to burn stronger, than on an average day. *That's two and a half inches of hair growth in about three and a half weeks.

On a completely unrelated but equally amusing note, I saw The Producers finally. It's been sitting around, waiting to be watched, for a week or two, probably longer, and I decided tonight was a good night, since I've been watching Classic Who and the old black and white episodes are painful to watch in high definition on a laptop in the dark. Everything seems grainer, darker, shakier. Headache inducing at the very least. But anyway, watched The Producers, and I was thoroughly entertained. I do love musicals. :B

And over the past week I've also been playing pokemon on and off, while conscious, since I needed something to focus on, and my eyes were swimming too much, for anything else. I think I started off right around the first gym and I've now just about beat the game (Pokemon LeafGreen) short of beating the Elite Four. I'm currently hunting down any rare Pokemon I might have missed.

Not much else going on. STILL no hours at Hobby Lobby. When I called in this morning (Monday) and asked about hours, they recommended I find a second job to 'fill in the gap'. It's a bit of a gap when the first is giving me nothing. :P Ridiculous. Tomorrow, weather (and body) willing, I'll be riding my bike about and putting in applications again. I meant to do that this last week, but the plague struck me down. *knocks on wood* Wish me well.

The plague! We all have the plague!

I'm somewhat more lucid now, than I was this time yesterday. Still feeling a bit off, but the nausea seems to have passed. The sprite did it. I was able to keep down minimal liquids after some sprite.

Now I seem to be trying to drain, which is a mystery since I'm still pretty dehydrated. I'm wondering if mucinex will upset my stomach again, cause I know it will help, but I don't want to backtrack to yesterday.

I noticed when reading through my friendslist entries, that alot of ya'll are sick too. There's some clever computer-virus joke in there somewhere, but hell if I can tell it right. I hope you all feel better soon!

I had several strange fever dreams, and the two that I can remember most clearly make very little sense. The first, I dreamt that ordering my Glati was a huge mistake because he was going to crush my head with his hooves. It seemed a very real threat at the time, and I was a bit terrified.

Then, I dreamed I was turning into a monster made entirely of fat, like the Blob, and that I was going to eat everyone in sight. That dream scared me enough that I stayed awake for several hours, trying to get it out of my head. @_@. Good times.

Not very useful today. x_x

My apologies to those of you I was supposed to be in contact with today. I've apparently caught a stomach bug of some sort. My efforts to stay hydrated haven't really helped me either, since after a couple of hours I just get sick again.

I'm hoping with rest, and some sprite for my stomach, I'll be well enough to be useful again, by morning. Today has been spent in bed, asleep, except for when I'm running for the restroom. Suffice it to say, I've not actually gotten much rest. x_x

I did call Mom to let her know I would not be attending Knit Night tonight. I do enjoy going but I don't want to give whatever this is, to our friends.

I can't think of a clever title.

Well, I think I've settled on a name for my hooved boy. (If you don't know what I'm talking about see Nekokoi's blog.) I was looking at the various baby name sites, for an Irish or Scottish name that meant 'from the hills' but I couldn't find one I liked, so I gave up on that meaning and just skimmed a bit, and decided on Dorran, which means Stranger.

And, while I was in church today I drew an all grown up version of him. :3 And, Friday evening after I posted, I did more on the first drawing, so I'll post them both. :3

I'm really excited about getting him. X3 I'll be placing my order either tonight, or tomorrow morning, using the layaway option, which I'm very thankful for. YAY GOAT BOY!

About Me

My photo
I'm Rory or Rorek in most places. I design, sew, and craft, primarily for my Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls. I also dabble in interior design, but I'm a little out of practice.

I post about the things I enjoy, which are sewing, photographing my dolls, designing new outfits, knitting, which I started in September of 2008, thanks to my Mom, and occasionally drawing, or painting.

I also post about Life Events and how they affect me and those that I love.

Currently I am living in DFW, Texas in the USA and working towards a degree in Theology.
