Day 5: What/who was the very first BJD you saw?

The very first one that I saw in person was Ro, but the doll that got me looking at BJDs and researching them was a Volks Sweet Dream doll, an SD I think. I'm not sure of the exact sculpt, but I followed a link from a signature on Gaiaonline back in 2003 or early 2004 to their DeviantArt page and learned that the girl I had been looking at was from a company called Volks.

From there I saw Shirou Tachibana and it was love at first sight. Unforunately Shirou was a limited release, and unavailable when I was shopping around for real in 2005, and I ended up going with a Dream of Doll Tender Yen after determining that a Luts Chiwoo was going to be too large to easily play with. I was still stunned at how big Ro was.

Destined to Teach

Today (Monday) the last of my professors asked me my major, and then told me that they were sure I was going to be a teacher, specifically on the college level. We continued discussing class and I walked her to her car before heading off to the bus stop.

So to date, every single professor I've had, has recommended that I go into teaching, and every single one of them specifically has said on the college level.

When I relayed this to Osaka she said "Well, look at what you're wearing!" and flapped her hands at me. I was wearing khakis and a dark blue polo shirt. I generally wear polos and khakis to school, because frequently I was going from work, and it was just easier that way. I have worn fun t-shirts and shorts but for most of both semesters I've worn khaki pants and polo shirts. I don't even really like polo shirts but I think they're better than short sleeved button down shirts, for warm weather, because they breathe better.

I have considered going into teaching before. I still want to get my degree in American Sign Language, but if I do end up switching to an education major then I already have my two years of language for it. I don't know what I would specialize in though. I love English, I like Math fine but my skills are a bit rough, I'm passionate about languages, passionate about History and Theology. Maybe I could do a Religions course, like the one I'm taking this semester. It's Religions of the World, and many of the religions I have studied prior to the class so while I am learning new things, I have come in with more commentary, thoughts, and questions than some of the students.

That was actually what prompted my professor this evening to ask my major. Several of my classmates did their presentations on different religions, most of which I had intimate knowledge of from prior research, and so when she got up to continue the lesson she stopped and asked if I knew anything about Shinto religion before she started, to which I replied that I knew some, and she asked if there was any religion I did NOT know something about, and I shrugged helplessly and laughed "I'm passionate about religions!" Then she asked my major, and told me I should teach.

If I am destined to teach it will happen, but my focus right now is my health, and my education in general. We'll see what happens when I continue education in Texas.

Insomnia

So.. the daily migraine medication I take works wonders for my headaches, and with imitrex as needed my migraines are finally beginning to be under control. My anxiety on the other hand is through the roof. I've found myself unable to sleep several nights in the last week, regardless of whether or not I have school next day.

About 28 hours ago I scripted all 30 days of the BJD Meme. I have spent the last several hours poking at Facebook, poking at Ravelry, tweaking settings on both, and just.. AWAKE. I took my Psych test at about 5am, and did better than I expected but not well. My anxiety was ramping up though so I knew I needed to get that just done.

My thoughts are unfocused and I'm finding myself wanting to withdraw. Social interaction is increasingly difficult. My insomnia is affecting others. I need a focusing point or something to pull myself together.

30 Day BJD Meme Day 1

I started this in 2012 but never finished it, so now I am going to try to do them again. You can see where I tried the first time (and got to day 10) if you go back and look at January to April 2012.

Day 1: Why do you like BJDs?

I like BJDs because of their customization factor. I love that a change of clothes, a change of wigs, a subtle change to faceup, can completely change the feel of a doll. I also love that having them inspires creativity.

My drawn art has slowly improved over the last 11 years even with it being intermittent, and I've gotten better at photography, sewing, and picked up new skills like knitting, and to a lesser degree quilting, and pattern drafting.

The hobby encourages and fosters creativity, and after a long time there are so many different companies to choose from with different aesthetics that almost anyone can find a doll that can be customized to their liking.

Current Cupcake Crew

I made a thing! And by a thing, I mean I photo collage, two actually because the image and file size were too large without breaking it up.

This is all of my currently at home Humanoid resin dolls, that are heads on bodies. This does not include Epona my pony, Zhiti my head cat, or my Kaiju Ryarlyn. Also not included are floating heads. I did take some photos of them grouped by size since I could NOT fit all 31 dolls into a single image. I did try, which was how I messed up my back and arm. So below we have first SDs, then MSDs and Reji my sole Puki, and then Yo-SD scaled dolls. I forgot to take photos of the 14cm tinies in this shoot so I have included an older photo of them together.

I noticed after the fact that my Yo-scaled tinies aren't much more than I had a few years ago, but then I realized it was because despite several new acquisitions, the number is roughly the same since several have gone on to new homes.

So yep, portraits of everyone with names, then grouped by size. I will probably never try to do this again because of the physical toll it took on me.
